knitter

This pattern is one I created when wanting a pair of legwarmers for The Diva, who had just entered her first year of ballet and tap lessons. I am having a hard time getting her into pants once I have gotten her outfit on and it is getting rather cool out. This is my solution and I would like to offer it here for you. This particular pair is done with Patons Decor Floral so that they will be just as washable as her tights and body suit. This pattern works up quickly and easily, using only one ball of the yarn.

Gauge: 20 stitches and 26 rows = 4 inches
Needles: Size 4mm DPNs or circulars

CO 40 stitches
Divide evenly between 4 DPNs or 2 circulars being careful not to twist stitches. Join.

Begin twisted rib sttich and continue for 1 1/2 inches.

Twisted Rib Stitch = (ktbl, p) repeat to end.

Continue in stockinette utnil leg measures 10 inches or desired length.

Begin Ruffle

Row 1: kfb all stitches (80 stitches)
Row 2: k all stitches
Row 3: Repeat Row 1 (160 stitches)
Row 4: Repeat Row 2

Cast off and weave in ends.

Question
are these knitted flat and then seamed? I tried them and even with 16 in circular needles it is too tight a curve.

Re: Question
I knit them in the round on double points. No seam. What do you mean by too tight a curve? Oh! Use two circulars, like you do with socks.

Re: Dancerella pattern
Oh my goodness...I'm not sure.

Try reading this...

Instead of inserting your needle through the front of the loop when you knit, insert it through the back of the loop and do the stitch the same way. Hope that helps!

Happy holidays!

legwarmers
My granddaughter was visiting and insited on hiking in a skirt and tights in the snow. I knit her legwarmers using your pattern with slight revisions - size 6 needles and alternated 3 purl rows and 6 knit rows. She loves the ruffle! I'll put a pic on my page.
Thanks for posting the pattern.

Dancerella leg warmer pattern
Hi Melissa,
Your leg warmers turned out GREAT. I happened to have some Red Heart multi-colored yarn, color '0168 Starbrights', which I used to make them. My granddaughter put them on after opening her present and would not take them off. She is 4 1/2 years old and they fit perfectly. SO CUTE! The ruffle at the bottom makes the legwarmers special. I want to make a pair in every color! Thank you.

I knit these legwarmers for my 4 1/2 year old ballerina. Love the ruffle on the bottom! Adds that extra princess touch for the little girls.

Frogging and First Position
The first position of the child in the picture. Take care when she does first position that she does not roll the feet forward as they are in the picture - ex ballerina

Great pattern!
I made these leg warmers for my daughter who just started gymnastics classes. The pattern is very easy and very pretty! You can make them however long you want, so it will fit anyone! I made my daughter's plain white so they would go with all her leotards. I plan to make more.

Thank you so much for sharing the pattern for these adorable legwarmers. My grandaughter is 4 1/2 and she just loves them in a true pink. She is going to dancing school on Saturday and she can't wait to wear them. They really were easy and fun to make.

made the legwarmers for a six-year-old
I finished a pair of these for my six-year-old dancer. At the suggestion of her teacher, I made them a bit longer so they'd come up and over her knees. She loves them, and so does her teacher! Thank you for making the pattern available!
